27/04/10 - Nike Air Go LWP (Light Weight Performance)

I totally freaked out when i just learned that the infamous Nike Air Go LWP (Light Weight Performance) will be retroed some time this year. I wore these out til you could see my sock through the outter sole. These kicks were beyond its time using new (back then) Zoom air technology together with air bags under the heels. Eliminating the midsole with a supportive upper that hugged like Huaraches, these ball shoes were so light and low to the ground that you’d easily forget you where wearing shoes.

Originally released in 1994, the Nike Air Go LWP was one of the first sneakers Anfernee ‘Penny’ Hardaway laced up in the NBA. This were also worn by another Hardaway, Tim, which would have helped him break off defenders with his killer cross-overs.

I dug out of the archives this issue of Slam with Penny on the cover. Since the NBA playoffs are on, i wanted to bring you guys back to ‘95 where the Orlando Magic made it to the NBA finals beating Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls along the way. (They were then swept by the Houston Rockets in the finals)

25/04/10 - Nike Air Max 90 Na’vi

These popped up on Nice Kicks.com. Although its a sample, this insanely crazy pair of 90’s is also a reminder that you can return to Pandora when Avatar comes out on DVD and Blu-ray on the 29th.

22/04/10 - The 3rd Dimension

3D home entertainment is coming to Australia. So if you’re just getting used to Blu-rays this is a friendly reminder of how fast technology is moving… and its moving pretty damn fast!

Sony have recently announced that they have partnered with FIFA to launch the first ever 3D experience of the World Cup. Although it is not yet confirmed if Australia will sign up to broadcast in 3D, ‘footy’ fans will be stoked to hear that Channel Nine just announced it will broadcast the first 3D sports event in Australia next month when Queensland takes on NSW in the State of Origin.

But before you get all excited there has to be a great deal of pre-production that needs to be put into broadcasting a 3D sports event experience that fully utilizes the 3D experience and technology. When block-buster films like Avatar get made, camera angles and the movement of the cameras are essential in bringin the action and life of the game into your lap making you flinch and all that… So how are they gonna pull off a soccer or footy game? Unless they have a cameras on field (bulit in the goal posts?) or riggs over the turf (that doesn’t interfere with the game) you might think twice in handing over your hard earned dollar to satisfy your tech-head urges.

I reckon the benefits of 3D home entertainment will be in computer gaming… so let’s leave that for another post.
