30/09/09 - Afro Samurai Resurrection

Being a HD enthusiast, i’ve been waiting awhile for the sequel to Afro Samurai to be released on blu ray. Finally it’s here, (Australia, i know it sucks having to be the last while the rest of the world gets to enjoy this this in HD 6months earlier) i was not disappointed to see the battle continue around the mystical ‘number 1 headband.’

‘Afro Samurai Resurrection’ is a massive upgrade to the first, with brighter colours, sharper action scenes and more fusion of hip-hop which made the first movie pure dopeness. Samuel L. Jackson returns as the voice of ‘Afro’ along side of Lucy Lui who plays a HOT villainess ‘Sio’ who reminds us why we love manga in the first place. Also the Rza returns to again handle the score for the movie bringin the crazy sounds and rhythms that gives this title its unique edge.

The blu ray comes with a booklet with character artwork, while the disc has cool special features including an interview with the creator of ‘Afro Samurai’ Takashi ‘Bob’ Okazaki who describes the Afro universe as big as Star Wars and that he hopes to see it all finished before he dies…. so do i!

28/09/-09 - Pac Man Trainer 1’s

Nike have recently dropped the Manny Pacquiao ‘Lights Out’ Trainer 1’s. The Pound for pound best boxer of the world became the first fighter to knockout Britain’s Ricky Hatton on May 2nd, 2009, (5/2/09) in two minutes and fifty-nine seconds (2:59). What a glitch! Nike picked up on this coincidence of numbers and used them on the underside of the shoes sole.

I’m especially diggin the the glow-in-the-dark line work making the Philippine Eagle design on the heel pop.

The shoe is also meticulously packaged with a very fine eye for detail.

This video cracks me up!

26/09/09 - More KOBE IV’s

With news of the Zoom Kobe V, it looks like we’ll be seeing less and less of the fresh IV colourways that have graced our eyes and our feet both on and off the court… Here are some that are still in the mix and some which have just dropped.

The ‘4 Rings’ … in case you lost count.

If you thought they ran out of purple and gold combinations for these kicks, how about some ‘Lakers Gradient’ action.

The Draft Day colourway pays homage to the Hornets who drafted Kobe out of high school and into the NBA on 26th of June 1996, and not the 11th, as the ‘Wrong Day’ colour way featured on the heel (and which the image on the Footlocker page features).

Kobe’s Philly colourway represents his roots, from when he grew up in Philadelphia until the age of 6, and when he returned again at 13 going on to play high school basketball.
