19/08/09 - Submarine Cafe

Halfway through our 10hr road trip across the east coast of Australia, we were mystified at a very interesting pit stop. Coming to a halt on the Hume Highway at its only set of traffic lights between Sydney and Melbourne (that’s a fact) we turned our heads and lowered the tinted windows to a 90 mitre long Submarine in the middle of nowhere! (Holbrook actually) This decommissioned Submarine also known as HMAS Otway is from the Royal Australian Navy which I guess was put there to attract business to the Submarine Cafe. Perfect!… for hungry travellers fascinated with all things deep beneath the surface.

16/08/09 - NB 575 x Staple ‘White Pigeon’

I have to admit that I thought Staple’s first collab with New Balance’s 575 were a pretty horrid pair of sneakers, though the same can’t be said about the NB575xWhitePigeons. The off white suede on these things are pure butter baby and a white mesh toe box is never a bad decision, but what I feel really sets these off is the pink highlights (laugh all you want). Anyway it’s good to see NB and Staple keeping this shoe pretty clean and simple, the way NB’s look best!

Head into Laced in Brisbane on Monday night for the August 18th Midnight release!
Remember there’s only 15 pairs in Australia, all at Laced! So get in there quick to avoid disappointment.

Also massive props to Twizm for the awesome flyer!!

13/08/09 - Hyperizers in FULL EFFECT!….

Yo!

First I’d like to take a quick second to introduce myself seeing as I’m new to the DS crew!

Just call me KC,
Have been born n raised in BNE, to keep it short I’ll say I’m addicted to all the usual sh*t, ie. sneakers, 20’s of buddahs and bitches with beepers. I’m really here because I love talking about sneakers and sharing my view on the latest concepts in the sneaker industry and fashion as a whole… or really whatever keeps me amused at the time..

Anyway.. First post time,

Nike’s been pushing out some pretty dope commercials lately… well really only the Nike SB one featuring the unexpected Ice Cube in it..

Anyway their latest campaign of the fake hip hop group featuring Rashard Lewis as ‘Ice-O’, Kevin Durant as ‘Velvet Hoop’, Mo Williams as ‘Fog Raw’ and Andre Iguodala as ‘Chief Blocka!’ called the ‘Hyperizers’, is supposedly meant to be paying homage to the Golden Era of Hip Hop , as well as their latest Basketball sneaker the Nike Hyperize.

I myself, have been digging the look of Nikes newer basketball shoes (flywire goodness) such as the Hyperdunk and the Kobe IV’s which we’re looking to be getting more of in Sept.!! (check back soon to know release dates!!), though the same can’t be said for this faux hip hop group..still a funny clip though..

Peep the video below!

10/08/09 - Woodstock’s 40th Anniversary

From the 15-18th of this month, the world’s most famous rock festival will celebrate four decades since almost half a million hippies and rock and roll fans overwhelmed a dairy farm in Bethel, New York.

It has been embraced as one of the greatest moments in music history, and why wouldn’t it?  Amongst the 32 acts were Santana, Janis Joplin, The Who, and of course, Jimi Hendrix.  A mind-blowing bill with mind-altering drugs, thousands of injuries, two deaths and one birth - now THAT’S a party!

Celebrations for its anniversary, however, have come to a halt.  Simply stated by Michael Lang (one the four original Woodstock promoters due to again back the event), to Rolling Stone - “Money.  No sponsors”.  Lang had hoped to hold a free concert in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park but was unable to find sponsors to cover the US$8-$10 million cost.

Here’s a small clip of Hendrix’s legendary rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner.  This is one way to close an event, but the ONLY way to close a defining era.
