A couple of months back I blogged about the Head On Foundation Photographic Portraiture competition. Well the entries have been finalized now and 40 finalist have been chosen. I’ve been told that Head On is a great opportunity to see some of the best portraiture work the country has to offer. This was also the first comp I entered and I’m stoked that my entry made the shortlist.
Opening night is this Thursday 30th April 6-9pm at the Australian Centre for Photography 257 Oxford Street, Paddington (Sydney).
Exhibition runs from 1 May - 6 June. Check it out.
Here’s my entires.

25/04/09 - GI Joe Resolute
Okay, so by now you probably figured out that I’m a Joe fan, but i couldn’t hold myself back in bloggin about a new animated series… which is NOT suitable for kids. “GI Joe Resolute” is a adult version of the original 80’s GI Joe characters. The 10 part mini episodes, just finished airing in the US on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. So be prepared for action, violence, death, blood, advanced weaponry and soldiers that actually reload their guns! The hand drawn animation doesn’t disappoint and will definitely appeal to any manga freaks out there.
You can watch all 10 episodes on Youtube… here’s the 1st.
The feature film, GI Joe The Rise of Cobra is due to be released in August this year. You can watch the trailer here.

23/04/09 - Green Latern
It was recently anounched that the upcoming Green Lantern feature production will be filmed at Fox Studios Sydney, Australia. Produced by Warner Brothers and DC Comics, this superhero will create 500 jobs for New South Wales, which is always good news for a state that currently has the highest unemployment rate in the country. Martin Campbell, who directed James Bond’s Casino Royale, will hopefully do justice to the DC Comic adaptation. Preproduction is expected to begin in July with filming later in the year.
Sydney’s no stranger to big budget productions, Wolverine, The Matrix, Mission Impossible 2, Star Wars revenge of the Sith and… Superman. (Heroes who wear their undies on the outside just don’t cut it on the big screen these days). So why Sydney? The reported $150 million budget (about the same as Watchmen) is worth a lot more in Sydney. The combination of our weak dollar, a 15% location rebate from the Australian Federal Government and incentives supplied by the New South Wales Government, why not?

18/04/09 - Then Till Now…
“What goes up must come down, What goes down comes back around again, Where it all began…” (-Killah Priest).
In the 1930’s to 1940’s the world experienced the Great Depression. In today’s current economic climate where the word ‘recession’ is becoming a frequently used word, only time can tell if we do end up like the days of old. The news which is riddled with job cuts and contingency plans to overcome or counter the financial crisis doesn’t look bright. We can only hope the power figures of the world can come up with the master plan that would either make or break em.
The calling of this Blog started when i was captivated by a documentary about the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The iconic bridge which took 6 years was also regarded as a triumph over the Depression times in Australia. Nicknamed the “Iron Lung” it kept many Depression-era workers employed. The steel arched bridge was formally opened on march 1932 consisting of 6 million hand driven rivets and cost the lives of 16 workers. Looking like a ‘Coathanger’ it is also the the tallest steel arch bridge in the world measuring 134 metres from top to water level. Situated in between Sydney’s CBD and the North Shore, it provides rail, vehicles and pedestrians easy access to and from the city. The bridge, harbour and the Sydney Opera House all in the same vicinity provides postcard views and a must see for Aussie tourists.
Anyway, apart from endorsing this city i live in… i wanna know… if we do continue down this economic rabbit hole… What is our next Harbour Bridge?
If you’ve ever worked in retail you’d know how much emphasis is involved with quality service. In these tough times where pockets are deep and arms are short… great service is the ultimate clincher for you to give up your hard earned dollar. Over the years through our experience nothing pisses you off more then poor product, poor service and being ripped off! On that note i just wanted to give a little plug to our friends at Fast Printing who have offered us quality service and slick goods at affordable prices.
