09/03/09 - Nike Flywire Technology

With the recent release of the Flywire Cortez and the Kobe IV’s (finally copped a pair), Nike’s Flywire is well establishing itself in Nike’s timeline of dope technology. It’s been a while since i’ve been excited about new tech on kicks, the last time was when i witnessed an egg being dropped and bouncing off zoom air soles at an Ekin night about a decade ago. Flywire tech is high-strength threads that work like cables on a suspension bridge giving you support without the excess material which equals light-weight performance. This strong lightweight tech was meant to be incorporated in a Windrunner Jacket. With last year’s successful Hyperdunks feeling like durable socks, imagine what a jacket would feel like… a force field! Although I haven’t seen this jacket in stores yet, don’t be surprised to see more of this revolutionary Flywire Technology in the future.

08/03/09 - Grandmaster Ip Man

It’s been awhile since a good martial arts film stimulated my senses, with the exception of Kung Fu Panda which is in a class of it’s own awesomeness. I was greatly taken by surprise by the 2008 film Ip Man that recently came out on DVD. It’s an action packed, Kung Fu gripping semi-biopic on Grandmaster Ip Man who was the first to openly teach Wing Chun Kung Fu to the public and most notably later the legend himself, Bruce Lee. Set just before WWII then getting into the Japanese rule over China, actor Donnie Yen takes you on a journey beginning from Ip’s early experiences as a reserved and humble teacher to a honorable and patriotic break-your-face weapon of mass concussion. Apparently this is the first of a trilogy that is said to later enter the Dragon himself, Bruce Lee. Check out your local China Town to cop this one.

05/03/09 - IT’S STARSCREAM!

Whilst we were up in Brisbane, Clinton of Laced hooked me up with this painting he did of Starscream. One of the many talents apart from running a leading streetwear store in BNE. Thanks Clinton, it hangs proudly up at DS HQ!
